2020 - Storms in the woods

Well the start of our season has certainly been a blowy one.

The winds have been very strong so far this year. I don’t think I have experienced any like it before. With the storms all arriving in quick succession of each other and given our location (a woodland full of trees) you would expect to have some damage, but thankfully, apart from the odd twigs, all of our trees are standing tall and proud. Guests commented on how safe and secure they felt in their cabins. It really is great to hear guests making the most of their time here, and not letting the weather stop them. But when it is horrible and rough outside what more would you want than to be cwtched up by the fire with your loved ones.

February brought us the wettest month on record and Builth Wells did not escape the harsh weather conditions.

On the 16th Feb, we woke to pictures and news that the river Wye in Builth wells had burst and houses, businesses and a local primary school had all been badly effected. Roads were closed and local events also had to be postponed. Needless to say it is sad to see the devastation that is caused by the weather. Thankfully we are quite a distance away from the rivers and on the hillside and so we had very little that effected us. Guests arrived and departed as normal, just maybe a little later than expected. That said the woodland floor is still a little saturated and so wellies or boots are still a must.

Fingers crossed, we have put all of this behind us now and warm sunshine is very nearly upon us. It is certainly feeling more like it today. I’ve even changed my wellies for boots.
